SOME OF THE PROJECTS WORKED ON OVER TIME
Designer Background
For nearly 40 years Paul Marshallsay has been involved in the engineering design business, starting with a formal 4 year apprenticeship. He has worked for many different companies, involved in may different areas of engineering.
The work role has varied from Design Draughtsman to Project Engineer, and the areas of work have varied from simple Variable Load Switches (Patented) for the disabled, to Aircraft Cockpit Interface Equipement, Glide Path Indicators for Naval Ships, High Speed Bank Note sorting Machine Modules to EMI sheilded enclosures, The list goes on..................
Design work is normally taken from Concept/Sketches/Specifications, to Prototyping Models and Testing, and on into Production, but every project is different, and can be adapted to suit individual requirements. Some projects are one-offs, and need to be "right first time".
During the initial stages, the Brief/Specification is looked at closely to guide the material selection and manufacturing process. This then ensures the design incorporates relevant features to tie in with the respective materials and processes.
Design for ease of assembly (DFA), manufacure (DFM), In Service maintanence, and Installation are also considered at the early stages, and during the design process.
Design work is always kept a lean a possible to minimise work, time and costs, both for customer and the designer. To ensure the initial design is done as well as possible, extra time is always needed in the early stages (Brief/Concept), always striving for "Right First Time", though this is very hard attain on some projects. Experience!!
Managing projects is an integral part of the design process, so costs, and time scales are kept to, as closely as possible.
All current work is designed using Solidworks. I have my official Solidworks seat. I also use Draftsight from time to time to aid the design process.
(I also have experience with Solidedge, CATIA, and Autocad(2D), although I do not have access to these software packages).
Maybe all you need is some design/drawing assistance, or you have an idea, and are not sure how to proceed. Get in touch and it can be discussed.
